Steering Column: Description
Steering columns are available in standard and tilt column models. Both models are of modular design. Wiper/washer, turn signal/hazard, horn/dimmer and ignition switches are mounted on column. Switches can be serviced by removing upper column shroud and steering wheel.
The energy-absorbing steering column collapses upon frontal impact. A cylindrical impact bumper is used on upper bracket to absorb impact loads. Key release button prevents inadvertent locking of steering wheel. Ignition switch is operated by a pin, mounted on lock actuator rack. It is pinion-driven by rotating ignition key.
