Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Control Panel
The control assembly consists of 10 push buttons, a variable blower speed knob for manual selection, a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) to display set temperature, ambient temperature and diagnostic codes. There are 5 Light-Emitting Diodes (LED) to display manual function overrides and 2 LED light bars to display automatic function and automatic blower control.
Set temperature can be raised or lowered in 1Β° increments (between 65Β°-90Β°F) or (18Β°-32Β°C) through the use of 2 buttons. Depressing the Red button will cause set temperature to increase. Depressing the Blue button will cause set temperature to decrease. When "OUTSIDE" button is depressed, outside ambient temperature is displayed for 4 seconds and then set temperature reappears.
The remaining 6 buttons are "OFF", "A/C", "DEFROST", "FLOOR", "PANEL" and "RECIRC". When blower knob is turned, automatic blower control is overridden, and manual blower speed is selected. Display will show in-vehicle temperature in Fahrenheit.
On vehicles with electronic cluster, temperature setting display can be changed to Celsius, when "MILES/KM" button is depressed on message center. The display will revert to Fahrenheit when "MILES/KM" button is depressed again. The control assembly performs the following functions:
- Processes data from vehicle operator's manual input to control panel, from in-vehicle sensor, ambient sensor, engine temperature sensor, sunload sensor and the blend door activator position sensor.
- When ignition is turned on, control remembers last temperature and blower setting prior to last shut-off.
- Provides continuous blend door actuator position control.
- Provides 2-position control over panel-defrost, floor-panel and outside-recirculation vacuum actuators.
- Provides 3-position function actuator control.
- Provides a continuous variable blower signal, which is amplified by a solid-state Blower Speed Control (BSC) module and a High Blower Relay (HBR), to control blower voltage.
- Provides A/C clutch with power, which is delivered through a pressure switch, by a relay built-in the control assembly.
