NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY CONTROL MODULES SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.

Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB). If scan tool communicates with CAB, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with CAB, perform NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLLER ANTI-LOCK BRAKE test under COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM.
Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
To start bulb test, turn ignition off, then on. If ABS warning indicator does not illuminate for 5-10 seconds, replace instrument cluster. If ABS warning indicator illuminates for 5-10 seconds, fault may be intermittent. Check related wiring and connectors for poor connections or damage to wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair any problems found as necessary. If no problems are found, check if any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) apply to vehicle. If no TSBs apply, test is complete.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

• You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.

• Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.

• The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.

• You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.

• You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
