2002 Chrysler Voyager ECFACTORY OEM SERVICE PROCEDURE
Incomplete Power Open - Overcurrent
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- With the DRBIII®, record and erase DTC's. Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition on. Operate the power liftgate several times if possible. With the DRBIII®, read DTCs. If the DRBIII® displays INCOMPLETE POWER OPEN - OVERCURRENT, go to the next step. If the DRBIII® does not display INCOMPLETE POWER OPEN - OVERCURRENT, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition. Operate the liftgate several times and check for any binding conditions.
- Examine the liftgate for proper alignment, worn or binding hinges, weak liftgate prop assembly, loose/hard weatherstrip, and gear teeth on the Power Liftgate Motor assembly for wear or anything that would cause an obstruction to proper operation. If necessary manually operate the liftgate of a known good vehicle and notice the effort needed. Compare the effort needed on the disabled vehicle. If there were any mechanical problems found, see POWER SLIDING DOORS & LIFTGATE article. If there were no mechanical problems found, go to the next step.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Power Liftgate Control Module C1 connector. See Figure. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12-volts, check the ground circuit. Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent open condition. If the test light illuminates brightly, go to the next step. If the test light does not illuminate brightly, repair the ground circuit for an open.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Power Liftgate Module C2 connector. See Figure. Measure the resistance between ground and the Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit. Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent shorted condition. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, repair the Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit for a short to ground. If the resistance is above 100 ohms, go to the next step.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Power Liftgate Module C2 connector. See Figure. Measure the resistance between the Ground circuit and the Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit. Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent shorted condition. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, repair the Liftgate Latch Cinch Driver circuit for a short to the ground circuit. If the resistance is above 100 ohms, go to the next step.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Power Liftgate Module C2 connector. See Figure. Measure the resistance between ground and the Liftgate Gear Engage Driver circuit. Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent short to ground condition. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, repair the Liftgate Gear Engage Driver circuit for a short to ground. If the resistance is above 100 ohms, go to the next step.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Power Liftgate Module C1 connector. See Figure. Measure the resistance between ground and the Liftgate Open Driver circuit. Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent short circuit condition. If the resistance is below 1000 ohms, repair the Liftgate Open Driver circuit for a short to ground. If the resistance is above 1000 ohms, go to the next step.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Power Liftgate Module C2 connector. See Figure. Measure the resistance between the Ground circuit and the Liftgate Gear Engage Driver circuit. Wiggle the harness and check for an intermittent short to ground condition. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, repair the Liftgate Gear Engage Driver circuit for a short to the Ground circuit. If the resistance is above 100 ohms, go to the next step.
- Ensure all connections to the module and liftgate motor are connected at this time. Operate the Power Liftgate in both directions if possible. If the motor starts to lift the liftgate but is very slow and labors extensively, replace the Power Liftgate motor assembly. See POWER SLIDING DOORS & LIFTGATE article. If motor liftgate operates properly, replace the Power Liftgate Module. See POWER LIFTGATE MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
