Front IR Sensor Not Calibrated
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Locate ATC remote sensor located above ATC module. Disconnect ATC remote sensor 4-pin harness connector. See Fig 1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage at ATC remote sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Light Blue/Pink wire). If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading is 10 volts or less, go to step 14.
- Measure voltage at ATC remote sensor 4-pin harness connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Light Blue wire). If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step. See Fig 1. If reading is 10 volts or less, go to step 12.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ATC module C3 connector. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage at ATC remote sensor 4-pin harness connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If reading is one volt or more, repair short to voltage in Brown/Light Blue wire. Calibrate ATC module and actuators. See HVAC CONTROL CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING. If reading is less than one volt, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect ATC control C3 connector. Set up lab scope (oscilloscope) for 12-volt square wave pattern. Set lab scope voltage range to 20 volts with an offset of 4 volts. Set lab scope to 40-millisecond division (40ms/div) scale. Connect lab scope ground lead to chassis ground. Connect lab scope probe lead to ATC remote sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 (White/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If lab scope pattern is good and cycles between 0 and 8 volts, go to next step. If voltage pattern is erratic or does not cycle between about 0 and 8 volts, go to step 9.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and sensor return circuit at ATC remote sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If reading is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, go to step 7.
- Replace ATC remote sensor. See appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article in HVAC.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ATC module C3 connector. Measure resistance in Brown/Light Blue wire between ATC module C3 connector terminal No. 3 and ATC remote sensor harness connector terminal No. 3. See Fig 1 and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/Light Blue wire.
- Replace ATC module. Calibrate ATC module and actuators. See HVAC CONTROL CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ATC module C3 connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and ATC remote sensor connector terminal No. 2 (White/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If reading is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in White/Light Blue wire. Calibrate ATC module and actuators. See HVAC CONTROL CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING. If reading is less than one volt, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and ATC remote sensor connector terminal No. 2 (White/Light Blue wire). If reading is less than 100 k/ohms, repair short to ground in White/Light Blue wire. Calibrate ATC module and actuators. See HVAC CONTROL CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING. If reading is 100 k/ohms or more, go to next step.
- Measure resistance in White/Light Blue wire between ATC module C3 connector terminal No. 2 and ATC remote sensor connector terminal No. 2. See Figure and Fig 1 . If reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Light Blue wire. Calibrate ATC module and actuators. See HVAC CONTROL CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING. If reading is less than 5 ohms, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and ATC remote sensor connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Light Blue wire). If resistance is 100 k/ohms or more, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Blue wire. Calibrate ATC module and actuators. See HVAC CONTROL CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING. If reading is less than 100 k/ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect ATC module C3 connector. See Figure. Measure resistance in Brown/Light Blue wire between ATC module connector C3 terminal No. 4 and ATC remote sensor connector terminal No. 4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 8. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Brown/Light Blue wire. Calibrate ATC module and actuators. See HVAC CONTROL CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING.
- Measure resistance in Light Blue/Pink wire between ATC module connector C3 terminal No. 1 and ATC remote sensor connector terminal No. 1. See Fig 1 and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 8. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Light Blue/Pink wire. Calibrate ATC module and actuators. See HVAC CONTROL CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
