2002 Chrysler Voyager ECFACTORY OEM SERVICE PROCEDURE
Horizontal Sensor Out Of Range High
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform MEMORY SYSTEM VERIFICATION TESTΒ under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Using scan tool, erase DTCs from Memory Seat/Mirror Module (MSMM). Operate driver's power seat and memory functions. Turn ignition off. Start engine and let idle for approximately one minute. Recheck for DTCs in MSMM. If HORIZONTAL SENSOR OUT OF RANGE HIGH resets, go to next step. If HORIZONTAL SENSOR OUT OF RANGE HIGH does not reset, conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time. Check for intermittent poor connections or faulty circuits and repair as necessary. See MEMORY SYSTEMS in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Turn ignition off. Locate and disconnect driver's seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector. Horizontal position sensor connector has Light Green/Brown, Light Green/Violet and Light Green/White wires. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and driver's seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector terminal "A" (Light Green/Brown wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step Β 7.
- Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and driver's seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector terminal "C" (Light Green/White wire). Turn ignition on. If voltage is 5.5 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 5.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Light Green/White wire between driver's seat horizontal position sensor and splice located near MSMM.
- Turn ignition off. Locate and disconnect MSMM connectors. See COMPONENT LOCATIONSΒ . Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and MSMM connector C2 terminal No. 2 (Light Green/Violet wire). See Figure and Figure . If voltage is 0.2 volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 0.2 volt, repair short to voltage in Light Green/Violet wire between MSMM and driver's seat horizontal position sensor.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect MSMM connectors. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor select BODY MEMORY SEAT SENSORS and monitor HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSOR voltage. If HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSOR voltage is greater than 0.2 volt, go to next step. If HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSOR voltage is 0.2 volt or less, replace seat track assembly. See POWER SEAT POSITION ADJUSTER TRACK under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER SEATS article.
- Reconnect driver's seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector. Using scan tool, monitor HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSOR voltage. Operate front of seat up and down. If HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSOR voltage is 7 volts or less, replace MSMM. See MEMORY SEAT/MIRROR MODULEΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSOR voltage is greater than 7 volts when seat motor is operating, replace seat track assembly.
- Turn ignition off. Locate and disconnect MSMM connectors. See COMPONENT LOCATIONSΒ . Ensure driver's seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector is disconnected. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Light Green/Brown wire between driver's seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector terminal "C" and MSMM connector C3 terminal No. 16. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Brown wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace MSMM. See MEMORY SEAT/MIRROR MODULEΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
