Wiper Park Switch Failure/Wipers Run Continuously
Monitored & Set Condition
- When Monitored: The ignition must be in the run position and battery voltage supplied to the BCM on the fused B+ circuit.
- Set Condition: The code will set if the BCM does not detect a low to high voltage transition on the Wiper Park Switch Sense circuit within 8 seconds after energizing the wiper relay On/Off relay.
Possible Causes:
- Wiper Park Switch Operation
- Wiper Park Switch Sense Circuit Short To Voltage
- Wiper Park Switch Sense Circuit Open
- Wiper Park Switch Sense Circuit Short To Ground
- Ground Circuit Open
- Wiper Motor Operation
- BCM
Testing
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs. Turn ignition off, then on. Turn wiper switch to each intermittent position, then to low and high. Turn wiper switch off. Using scan tool, retrieve BCM DTCs. If WIPER PARK SWITCH FAILURE DTC resets, go to next step. If WIPER PARK SWITCH FAILURE DTC does not reset, fault may be intermittent. Check related wiring and connectors for poor connections or damage to wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMSΒ . Repair any problems found as necessary. If no problems are found, check if any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) apply to vehicle. If no TSBs apply, test is complete.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Disconnect BCM connector C3. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage on wiper motor connector terminal No. 4, wiper park switch sense circuit (Tan/Red wire). See Figure . If no voltage exists, leave connectors disconnected and go to next step. If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Tan/Red wire.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of wiper park switch sense circuit (Tan/Red wire) between wiper motor connector terminal No. 4 and BCM connector C3 terminal No. 3. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave connectors disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Red wire.
- Measure resistance between ground and BCM connector C3 terminal No. 3, wiper park switch sense circuit (Tan/Red wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Red wire. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, leave wiper motor connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Ensure ignition, all lights and accessories are off. Ensure BCM connectors are properly connected. Connect a 12-volt test light between battery voltage and wiper motor connector terminal No. 5, ground circuit (Black wire). If test light illuminates, leave wiper motor connector disconnected and go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor WIPER PARK SWITCH status. Using a fused jumper wire, momentarily ground wiper motor connector terminal No. 4, wiper park switch sense circuit (Tan/Red wire) while observing scan tool display. If WIPER PARK SWITCH status changes, replace wiper motor. See appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. If WIPER PARK SWITCH status does not change, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULEΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
