Wiper Not Working In Low Speed

NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY CONTROL MODULES SYSTEM VERIFICATION TESTΒ  under VERIFICATION TESTS.

Possible Causes:

  • Wiper High/Low Relay
  • Wiper High/Low Relay Control Circuit Shorted To Ground
  • Multifunction Switch Low Switch Open
  • Fused B+ Circuit Open
  • Low Speed Output Circuit Open
  • Wiper Motor
  • BCM

Testing

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove wiper high/low relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Figure . Connect a jumper wire between wiper high/low relay connector terminal "A", fused B+ circuit (Red/Orange wire) and terminal "E", wiper high/low relay low speed output circuit (Brown/White wire). If windshield wipers operate at low speed, leave wiper high/low relay removed and go to next step. If windshield wipers do not operate at low speed, leave wiper high/low relay removed and go to step Β 5 .
  2. Remove jumper wire. Substitute a known-good wiper high/low relay. Turn ignition on. Operate wipers in low, then high speed. If wipers operate properly, replace wiper high/low relay. If wipers do not operate properly, install original wiper high/low relay and go to next step.
  3. Turn wipers off. Turn ignition off. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Remove multifunction switch from steering column. Set multifunction switch in low position. Measure resistance between multifunction switch (component side) terminals No. 1 and 3. See Figure . If resistance is 980-1060 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 980-1060 ohms, replace multifunction switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M article.
  4. Remove wiper high/low relay. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C3. Measure resistance between ground and BCM connector C3 terminal No. 12, wiper high/low relay control circuit (Violet wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet wire. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULEΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Remove jumper wire. Turn wipers off. Connect a 12-volt test light between ground and wiper high/low relay connector terminal "A", fused B+ circuit (Red/Orange wire). If test light illuminates, leave wiper high/low relay removed and go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Red/Orange wire.
  6. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Measure resistance of wiper high/low relay low speed output circuit (Brown/White wire) between wiper high/low relay connector terminal "E" and wiper motor connector terminal No. 2. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace wiper motor. See WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/White wire.
