Deck Lid Release Inoperative
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TESTΒ
under VERIFICATION TESTS.
Possible Causes:
- Ground Circuit Open
- Deck Lid Release Solenoid Open
- Fused B+ Circuit Open
- Deck Lid Release Switch Open
- Deck Lid Release Switch Output Circuit Open
- Deck Lid Release Control Circuit Open
- Body Control Module
Testing
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector. Measure resistance between ground and deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 1, ground circuit (Black wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
- Connect a 12-volt test light between deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 1, ground circuit (Black wire) and terminal No. 3, deck lid release control circuit (Black/White wire). Press deck lid release switch. If test light illuminates when switch is pressed, replace deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M article. If test light does not illuminate when switch is pressed, go to next step.
- Ensure deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector is properly connected. Disconnect 2-pin deck lid release switch connector. Connect 12-volt test light between ground and deck lid release switch connector terminal No. 2, fused B+ circuit (Pink wire). If test light illuminates brightly, leave deck lid release switch connector disconnected and go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair open in Pink wire.
- Disconnect deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector. Connect a 12-volt test light between deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 1, ground circuit (Black wire) and terminal No. 3, deck lid release control circuit (Black/White wire). Connect a fused jumper wire between deck lid release switch connector terminals. If test light illuminates brightly with jumper wire connected, replace deck lid release switch. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M article. If test light illuminates brightly, leave deck lid release switch connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Remove jumper wire. Ensure deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector is properly connected. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C1. Measure resistance of deck lid release switch output circuit (Black/White wire) between BCM connector C1 terminal No. 1 and deck lid release switch connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire.
- Disconnect deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector. Remove BCM from back of junction block. Measure resistance of deck lid release control circuit (Black/White wire) between deck lid release solenoid/ajar switch connector terminal No. 3 and terminal No. 8 at BCM connector on back of junction block. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULEΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire.
