Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Front Riser Sensor Out Of Range High
Monitored & Set Condition
- When Monitored: Ignition on.
- Set Condition: This condition is immediately set when the seat motor potentiometer feeds a value higher than the Memory Seat Module has stored EEPROM.
Possible Causes:
- Seat Sensor Ground Wire Open
- Front Riser Sensor Signal Short To Motor
- Front Riser Position Signal Circuit Short To Voltage
- Front Riser Sensor High
- Seat Sensor 5-Volt Supply Short To Battery
- Memory Heated Seat Mirror Module
Testing
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver power seat front riser motor sensor connector. Measure resistance between ground and driver power seat front riser motor sensor connector terminal No. 3, seat position sensor ground circuit (Brown/Red wire). See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, leave driver power seat front riser motor sensor connector disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step Β 3 .
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Memory Heated Seat/Mirror Module (MHSMM) connector C2. Measure resistance of seat position sensor ground circuit (Brown/Red wire) between driver power seat front riser motor sensor connector terminal No. 3 and MHSMM connector C2 terminal No. 16. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace MHSMM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT/MIRROR MODULEΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/Red wire.
- Ensure driver power seat front riser motor sensor connector is properly connected. Ensure all other power seat motor sensor connectors are connected. Ensure front riser motor is operational. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, monitor FRONT RISER POSITION SENSOR voltage while operating front riser motor to both limits. If voltage is more than 8 volts while motor is operating, replace seat track assembly. See POWER SEATS article. If voltage is not more than 8 volts while motor is operating, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver power seat front riser motor sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and driver power seat front riser motor sensor connector terminal "C", seat sensor 5-volt supply circuit (Brown/White wire). If voltage is more than 5.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Brown/White wire. If voltage is 5.5 volts or less, leave front riser motor sensor connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect MHSMM connector C1. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and MHSMM connector C1 terminal No. 15, front riser position signal circuit (Brown wire). See Figure . If voltage is more than 0.2 volt, repair short to voltage in Brown wire. If voltage is 0.2 volt or less, leave front riser motor sensor connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure MHSMM connector C1 is properly connected. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read FRONT RISER POSITION SENSOR voltage. If voltage more than 0.2 volt, replace MHSMM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT/MIRROR MODULEΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is 0.2 volt or less, replace seat track assembly. See POWER SEATS article.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
