2000 Chrysler Intrepid BaseFACTORY OEM SERVICE PROCEDURE

Wiper Park Switch Failure/Wipers Run Continuously

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear Body Control Module (BCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Turn ignition off, then back on. Turn wiper switch to each intermittent position, then to low and high. Turn wiper switch off. Using scan tool, retrieve BCM DTCs. If this DTC resets, go to next step. If this DTC does not reset, problem is intermittent.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper motor harness connector. Disconnect BCM harness connector C3. Measure resistance in Tan/Red wire between terminal No. 4 at wiper motor harness connector and terminal No. 3 at BCM harness connector C3. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Red wire between wiper motor and BCM.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Tan/Red wire) at BCM harness connector C3. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Tan/Red wire between wiper motor and BCM.
  4. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at terminal No. 3 (Tan/Red wire) at BCM harness connector C3. If no voltage exists, go to next step. If any voltage exist, repair short to voltage in Tan/Red wire between wiper motor and BCM.
  5. Turn ignition off. Connect a test light between positive battery voltage and terminal No. 5 (Black wire) at wiper motor harness connector. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire between wiper motor and ground.
  6. Connect BCM harness connector C3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor wiper park switch status. Using a fused jumper wire, momentarily ground and terminal No. 4 (Tan/Red wire) at wiper motor harness connector while observing scan tool display. If wiper park switch input changes on scan tool, replace wiper motor. If wiper park switch input does not change on scan tool, replace BCM.
