2000 Chrysler Intrepid BaseFACTORY OEM SERVICE PROCEDURE

Washer Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, probe input side of fuse No. 5 (10-amp) in junction block. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black/White wire between ignition switch and junction block.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect fuse No. 5 (10-amp) in junction block. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step Β 6 .
  3. Disconnect wiper/washer switch harness connector at multifunction switch. Measure resistance between ground and output side of fuse No. 5 at junction block. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire between junction block and multifunction switch.
  4. Ensure wiper switch is off. Measure resistance between terminal No. 1 and all other terminals at wiper/washer switch connector (component side). See Fig 1 . If all resistances are greater than 100 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 100 ohms or less, replace wiper/washer switch.
  5. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C2. Disconnect washer pump harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (Brown wire) at BCM harness connector C2. See Figure . If resistance is than 100 ohms, check wiper motor for internal short and replace if necessary. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown wire between wiper/washer switch, washer pump and BCM.
  6. Disconnect washer pump harness connector. Connect a test light between positive battery voltage and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) at washer pump harness connector. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire between washer pump and ground.
  7. Turn ignition off. Install fuse No. 5 in junction block. Disconnect wiper/washer switch harness connector at multifunction switch. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue wire) at wiper/washer switch harness connector. See Fig 2 . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Dark Blue wire between wiper/washer switch and junction block.
  8. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between terminals No. 1 and 2 at wiper/washer switch (component side) while operating washer switch. See Fig 1 . Resistance should be 5 ohms or less when washer switch is on and greater than 100 ohms when wiper switch is off. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace wiper/washer switch.
  9. Connect wiper/washer switch harness connector at multifunction switch. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between ground at terminal No. 1 (Brown wire) at washer pump harness connector. Observe test light while operating washer switch. If test light illuminates, replace washer pump. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Brown wire between washer pump and wiper/washer switch.
