At this point, test procedures have determined that all engine control systems are operating correctly and are not the cause of the driveability problem. Check the following as possible causes:

  • Check for at least 13 in. Hg engine vacuum in Neutral.
  • Check engine valve timing.
  • Check engine compression.
  • Check engine cooling system.
  • Check exhaust system for restrictions.
  • Check engine PCV system for free flow.
  • Check intake manifold heat crossover for plugging.
  • Check fuel pump pressure, volume and vacuum.
  • Check torque converter stall speed.
  • Check power brake booster for internal vacuum leaks.
  • Check for fuel contamination.
  • Check carburetor for circuit contamination and proper calibration.
  • Check Technical Service Bulletins that may apply to vehicle.
