Switch Test
After all codes have been shown and Code 55 has indicated end of message, actuate the following component switches. When these switches are activated and released, the digital display on the diagnostic Readout Tool must change. If not, check specific switch.
- Brake pedal.
- Shift gear selector from Park to Reverse and back to Park.
- A/C switch (if equipped).
- Rear defogger switch (if equipped).

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
