Body Control Module Programming and Setup: Introduction

The procedures below are designed to set-up the body control module (BCM) correctly during BCM related service. Before you start, read these procedures carefully and completely.

IMPORTANT: The following procedures must be followed:

Body Control Module (BCM) Replacement or Reprogramming 

If the body control module (BCM) is replaced or reprogrammed, the following procedures must be performed in the following order:

  1. Programming the BCM.
  2. Programming Immobilizer System Components, if equipped with Passlock System.

Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) Replacement 

If the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed in the following order:

  1. Programming the BCM.
  2. Programming Immobilizer System Components, if equipped with Passlock System.

Passlock™ Sensor Replacement 

If the Passlock™ Sensor is replaced perform the Learn Procedure. Refer to Programming Immobilizer System Components .

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
