NOTE:
Use this check as starting point for any remote keyless entry system complaint.
- Install scan tool. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Try to establish scan tool communication with Body Control Module (BCM) on Class 2 serial data circuit. If communication with BCM is established, go to next step. If communication with BCM is not established, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
- Using scan tool, select display DTC function for BCM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If DTCs are present, go to next step. If no DTCs are present, see TEST B: REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM INOPERATIVE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTCs U1000-U1305 are not present, go to next step. If DTCs U1000-U1305 are present, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
- If scan tool does not display DTC B1000 or B1004, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1000 or B1004, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
- If scan tool does not display DTC B1339 or B1349, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1339 or B1349, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
- If scan tool does not display DTC B1482, B1483, B1507 or B1508, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool displays DTC B1482, B1483, B1507 or B1508, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
