Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Circuit/System Testing
- Inspect the appropriate B5 Wheel Speed Sensor and encoder ring for contamination, metallic particles, physical damage, incorrect installation and the correct component.
- If contamination, physical damage, incorrect installation, or the wrong component is diagnosed
Repair or replace the applicable component.
- Go to next step: If no contamination, physical damage, incorrect installation, or the wrong component is not diagnosed
- If contamination, physical damage, incorrect installation, or the wrong component is diagnosed
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the appropriate B5 Wheel Speed Sensor and the harness connector at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module, ignition ON.
- Test for less than 1 V between the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector terminals listed below and ground:
- B5LF Wheel Speed Sensor - Left Front - terminal 7 and terminal 24
- B5LR Wheel Speed Sensor - Left Rear - terminal 23 and terminal 39
- B5RF Wheel Speed Sensor - Right Front - terminal 26 and terminal 21
- B5RR Wheel Speed Sensor - Right Rear - terminal 37 and terminal 22
- If 1 V or greater
Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Ignition OFF.
- Test for infinite resistance between the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector terminals listed below and ground:
- B5LF Wheel Speed Sensor - Left Front - terminal 7 and terminal 24
- B5LR Wheel Speed Sensor - Left Rear - terminal 23 and terminal 39
- B5RF Wheel Speed Sensor - Right Front - terminal 26 and terminal 21
- B5RR Wheel Speed Sensor - Right Rear - terminal 37 and terminal 22
- If less than infinite resistance
Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 Ω between the B5 Wheel Speed Sensor harness connector terminal 1 and the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector terminal listed below:
- B5LF Wheel Speed Sensor - Left Front - terminal 24
- B5LR Wheel Speed Sensor - Left Rear - terminal 39
- B5RF Wheel Speed Sensor - Right Front - terminal 21
- B5RR Wheel Speed Sensor - Right Rear - terminal 22
- If 2 Ω or greater
Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 2 Ω
- Test for less than 2 Ω between the B5 Wheel Speed Sensor harness connector terminal 2 and the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector terminal listed below:
- B5LF Wheel Speed Sensor - Left Front - terminal 7
- B5LR Wheel Speed Sensor - Left Rear - terminal 23
- B5RF Wheel Speed Sensor - Right Front - terminal 26
- B5RR Wheel Speed Sensor - Right Rear - terminal 37
- If 2 Ω or greater
Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 2 Ω
- Replace the B5 Wheel Speed Sensor.
- Verify the DTC does not set while operating the vehicle within Conditions for Running the DTC.
- If the DTC sets
Replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module.
- Go to next step: If the DTC does not set
- If the DTC sets
- All OK.
