1993 BMW 740iFACTORY OEM SERVICE PROCEDURE

Circuit Test

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect "T" plug with adapter "A" to ABS wiring harness connector. Connect lead from adapter "A" to cigarette lighter. Red light should come on. Switch to position No. 3 on adapter. Disconnect speed sensor connector. Speed sensor (DF) reading should be at least 999,000 ohms. If DF reading is less than specified, go to next step.
  2. For left front sensor, check electrical continuity in terminals No. 4 and 6. Place jumper wire across sensor terminals on wiring harness side. DF reading should be less than one ohm. If DF reading is more than one ohm, inspect wiring harness. If wiring harness is okay, replace speed sensor.
  3. For right front sensor, check continuity between terminals No. 11 and 21. Place jumper wire across sensor terminals on wiring harness side. DF reading should be less than one ohm. If DF reading is more than one ohm, inspect wiring harness. If wiring harness is okay, replace speed sensor.
  4. For left rear sensor, check continuity between terminals No. 7 and 9. Place jumper wire across sensor terminals on wiring harness side. DF reading should be less than one ohm. If DF reading is more than one ohm, inspect wiring harness. If wiring harness is okay, replace speed sensor.
  5. For right rear sensor, check continuity between terminals No. 24 and 26. Place jumper wire across sensor terminals on wiring harness side. DF reading should be less than one ohm. If DF reading is more than one ohm, inspect wiring harness. If wiring harness is okay, replace speed sensor.
