| Brake pad thickness with backing plate mm | mm | 16.62 |
| Brake pad wear limit with backing plate | mm | 9.5 |
Hairline cracks on brake rotor friction surfaces are often observed during brake repairs. Hairline cracks up to 10 mm long are not a technical flaw and are not cause for brake rotor replacement.
Brake discs with friction surfaces that have worn through should be replaced.
| Ceramic - Front Wheel Brakes | ||
|---|---|---|
| Production-relevant number (PR number) | 1LN | |
| Brake rotor ventilated | diameter mm | 420 |
| Brake rotor, thickness | mm | 40 |
| Brake rotor, wear limit | The wear limit is the minimum brake rotor thickness, during manufacturing it is stamped into the brake rotor cup. | |
| Brake caliper, 8 pistons | diameter mm | 8 x diameter 30.2 |
| Brake pad thickness with backing plate | mm | 20 |
| Brake pad wear limit with backing plate | mm | 10 |
Hairline cracks on the friction surface on ceramic brakes occur during the manufacturing process and can be found on new brakes in different stampings. Hairline cracks on the friction surfaces are not a reason to exchange the ceramic brake discs.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
