2000 Acura Integra GS-R, 2D CoupeFACTORY OEM SERVICE PROCEDURE

Generator/Regulator Output Test

  1. Ensure battery is fully charged. Hook up charging system tester according to manufacturer's instructions. Start engine and operate at 3000 RPM until radiator fan comes on, then let engine idle. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM and hold. Observe voltmeter on tester. If more than 15.1 volts exists, replace voltage regulator. If 15.1 volts or less exists, go to next step.
  2. Return engine to idle. Ensure all accessories are off. See Figure . Zero ammeter on tester and connect inductive pick-up over negative battery cable. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM and hold. Observe voltmeter. If 13.5 volts or more exists, go to next step. If less than 13.5 volts exists, test and repair generator components. See BENCH TESTINGΒ  .
  3. While observing ammeter, apply load with charging system tester carbon pile until battery voltage drops to 12-13.5 volts. If less than 70 amps exist, go to next step. If 70 amps or more exist, charging system is functioning properly.
CAUTION: Voltage will increase rapidly during full field test. DO NOT allow voltage to exceed 18 volts. Damage to electrical system may result.
  4. With engine speed still at 2000 RPM, full field generator. Insert test probe into full field access hole, located on back of generator. See Figure . If 70 amps or more exist, replace internal IC voltage regulator. If less than specified amperage exists, test and repair generator components. See BENCH TESTINGΒ  .
