SERVICE INFORMATION

Big changes are coming to the HDS very soon! If you don't already have an MVCI as the interface for your HDS PC, you'll have one soon, but the big news is the new 3G  HDS software.

3G HDS software DVDs will start arriving the week of July 18, 2011  , so make sure your laptop is equipped with a DVD drive. These DVDs contain all needed info to update your HDS PC to 3G and a link to the HDS Download Manager. Any PCs running the current HDS (2G) software will be overwritten to 3G. You should see a difference in the screen colors; 2G has a grey background while 3G is blue. This DVD also serves as an HDS recovery disk, so once it's installed, hang onto it for future use.

Here are some key points to remember about this new software:

  • Software updates are done automatically with the HDS Download Manager. No need for CDs (the last 2G HDS software CD was released on June 30, 2011  ).
  • It works only  with the MVCI; the HIM is no longer supported, and the GNA600 will be used strictly for AcuraLink. The best way to connect the MVCI to your HDS PC is with an Ethernet cable; it offers fast connection speeds without a complicated setup.
  • If a DTC is detected, this new software automatically searches through every ISIS resource (service manuals, service bulletins, ServiceNews, Tech2Tech,  etc.), then lists all of the DTC-related materials.

While your older diagnostic tools (HDS Tablet, HDS Pocket Tester, HIM, GNA600) may still work, don't  use them to troubleshoot any vehicles after  you've updated your system, as there won't be any more updates available for those units. Troubleshooting with obsolete software can lead to comebacks.

This is just the first step with 3G HDS as we move closer to complete integrated service information  . Coming later this year, we're adding i-Troubleshooting for the '13 RDX. In an i-Troubleshooting procedure, the system automatically searches for real-time "live" values from the vehicle's Data List  , then fills that information in the appropriate test result areas of the i-Troubleshooting screen.

If you want to find out more on the 3G HDS, go to Online University, and check out self-study module EBC 29 3G (Third Generation) HDS.

To support the release of 3G HDS, our Special Tools Hot Line has added more reps to answer your 3G HDS questions. Their phone number is still the same (800-346-6327  ) and as well as their operating hours (Monday thru Friday, 7 A.M to 5 P.M. PST)  . The main menu has changed a bit, so listen carefully when you call. You need to pick the option that takes you to 3G HDS technical support.
