Alternator Fr Signal
- Disconnect 4-pin connector from alternator. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between PCM terminals C17 and A9. See Figure. If voltage is not about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to step 3).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect PCM connector "C". Check continuity between body ground and PCM terminal C17. If continuity exists, repair shorted White/Red wire between PCM terminal C17 and alternator. If continuity does not exist, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck for proper voltage.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect alternator 4-pin connector. Start and warm engine to operating temperature. Measure voltage between PCM terminals C17 and A9. Turn headlights and rear defogger on. If voltage does not decrease, go to next step. If voltage decreases, alternator FR signal is okay.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector "D". Disconnect alternator 4-pin harness connector. Using a jumper wire, apply ground to White/Red wire at alternator 4-pin harness connector. Check for continuity between PCM terminal C17 and ground. If no continuity exists, repair open White/Red wire between PCM terminal C17 and alternator.
