Code 20 - Electric Load Detector
- Turn ignition off. Remove BACK-UP fuse (7.5-amp) from underhood fuse box for 10 seconds to reset ECM. Start and idle engine. Retrieve codes. If Code 20 does not appear, problem is intermittent. Inspect for poor or loose connections at MAP sensor and Electric Load Detector (ELD). Test-drive vehicle and retest.
- If Code 20 exists, turn ignition off. Remove underhood fuse/relay box. Remove lower cover. Unplug 3-pin ELD connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ELD Black/Yellow wire (positive) and Black wire (negative). See Fig 1 . If voltage is not about 12 volt s, go to next step. If voltage is about 12 volts, go to step 4).
- Measure voltage between ELD Black/Yellow wire (+) and ground. If voltage is about 12 volts, repair open circuit in Black wire between 3-pin ELD connector and ground (right side of engine compartment). If voltage is not about 12 volts, repair open Black/Yellow wire between ELD connector and ACG fuse No. 24.
- If voltage was about 12 volts in step 2), measure voltage between ELD Green/Red wire (+) and body ground (-). If voltage is not about 5 volts, repair open in Green/Red wire between ECM terminal D10 and ELD. If voltage is about 5 volts, turn ignition off.
- Reconnect ELD wiring. Connect ECM Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) between ECM and ECM harness. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between test terminals D10 (+) and D26 (-). If voltage does not drop when headlights are turned on, replace ELD. If voltage drops when headlights are turned on, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
