Subaru WRX fluid capacities by year and transmission
There is no single fluid capacity that applies to every WRX. The factory tables below separate the newer 2.4L generation from earlier 2.0L models and distinguish standard transmission from CVT where the inspected manual does.
2022β2024 Β· 2.4L WRX manual examples
For 2024 and the inspected 2023 Base selections, the fluid tables list 4.80 qt (4.54 L) for an engine-oil drain and refill with filter, and 4.50 qt (4.25 L) without filter. They list 5.90 qt (5.58 L) as total engine-oil capacity. The specified oil is SAE 0W-20 synthetic. These are distinct figures; do not substitute total capacity for a routine oil change.
Swipe the table sideways to see transmission details and the manual source for each row.
| Manual selection | Coolant | Transmission and differential entries | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 WRX Base, standard transmission | 9.00 qt (8.51 L) | Manual transmission: 3.50 qt (3.31 L); rear differential: 0.80 qt (0.75 L) | Open fluid table |
| 2024 WRX Limited, automatic CVT | 9.20 qt (8.7 L) | Front differential: 1.30 qt (1.23 L); rear differential: 0.80 qt (0.75 L). CVT table lists 12.6 or 12.9 qt by cooler equipment and says to confirm fluid type with Subaru. | Open fluid table |
| 2023 WRX Base, standard / CVT | 9.00 / 9.20 qt (8.51 / 8.7 L) | Manual table entries vary by transmission. CVT fluid type is not specified by the capacity table. | StandardΒ·CVT |
The 2022 WRX fluid table available in this archive is for a Base automatic-CVT selection. Do not infer that its figures cover a standard-transmission car or every trim.
2015β2021 Β· 2.0L WRX manual examples
The inspected 2019β2021 Base tables list 5.40 qt (5.11 L) for an oil drain and refill with filter and specify 5W-30 synthetic oil. They list 8.60 qt (8.13 L) coolant for standard-transmission application and 13.10 qt (12.39 L) Subaru High Torque CVT Fluid for automatic-transmission application. The 2018 table differs in coolant capacity (8.70 qt / 8.23 L) and lists 6.30 qt (5.96 L) total oil capacity. Earlier year tables have their own entries; use the linked table for the exact year.
Before filling or ordering fluid
- Match the model year, trim, and standard-transmission or CVT configuration in the manual.
- A listed capacity may be a total, system, or table capacity; it does not automatically equal the amount for a routine drain and refill. Follow the exact service procedure and level-check method.
- The 2024 CVT table gives alternative capacity figures by air-cooled fluid-cooler equipment and directs the reader to confirm the correct fluid with Subaru. This page does not identify the correct branch for your VIN.
- The manual tables list 3.40 oz (0.1 L) as 2024 air-conditioning compressor oil. That is not the WRX's general fluid capacity or engine-oil amount.
