Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Coolant Type and Capacity
Choose the exact year, engine, VIN and cooling circuit before using a coolant quantity. The checked examples below cover Silverado 1500 only; they do not establish capacities for every Silverado or for 2500 HD, 3500 HD or EV models.

Never open a hot or pressurized cooling system. Let it cool, identify the correct circuit, and follow the vehicle's fill and bleed procedure. If the existing coolant is unknown, confirm the specification before topping up or mixing products.
What the checked Fluids tables say
The ten checked coolant rows in eight exact Silverado 1500 tables specify a 50/50 mixture of DEX-COOL and clean, drinkable water. Their approximate capacities vary: the checked 2018 5.3L lists 16.90 US qt, the 2020 5.3L L82 lists 13.60 US qt, and the 2024 5.3L lists 13.80 US qt. A single 5.3L quantity across years is misleading.
The checked 2020 and 2024 3.0L diesels each list separate charge air and engine cooling circuits. Keep their quantities separate. These table values are approximate system capacities, not the amount to pour in after a drain or repair; recheck the level as the exact manual directs.
The former page called the 5.3L a V6 and assigned unverified dry-fill amounts, color rules and a change interval to whole generations. Those claims have been removed. Coolant color alone is not a reliable product specification.
