Nissan Maxima Fluid Capacities by Year
A fluid chart must identify the year, exact trim and service operation. These four checked examples do not cover every Maxima. Approximate cooling-system and transmission catalog quantities are not instructions to pour those amounts during a routine drain.
The checked 2020 Maxima S
Its hosted Fluids table gives 5.13 US qt engine oil with filter, 9.75 US qt approximate cooling-system capacity with reservoir, and 8.63 US qt CVT catalog capacity. Nissan's 2020 owner manual lists about 5-1/8 qt oil with filter and 9.2 L coolant with reservoir, but leaves CVT capacity blank. Neither source establishes a 4.5 qt CVT drain-and-fill amount. Use the exact transmission-level procedure and NS-3 specification before servicing it.
The checked 2009 S uses NS-2 CVT fluid and has about 8.70 US qt cooling-system capacity with reservoir, while the checked 2016, 2020 and 2023 examples specify NS-3 and about 9.72–9.75 US qt cooling-system capacity. The later Maximas also list E-PSF power-steering fluid; electric assistance does not mean this checked steering system has no service fluid. Nissan's 2016 owner manual confirms the NS-3 and E-PSF distinction.
There is a separate 2009 oil discrepancy: its hosted S table gives 4.50 US qt with filter, while Nissan's 2009 owner manual gives 4-7/8 US qt. See the Maxima oil page for the year-specific oil details. Fill gradually and verify the dipstick level.

Oil figures below are drain-and-refill amounts with a filter change except where the 2009 sources disagree. Coolant figures approximate the whole system with reservoir. The hosted CVT figures are catalog capacities; Nissan's owner manuals do not give a universal drain-and-fill quantity. No 2015 Maxima selection appears in the current manual picker, so no 2015 capacity is claimed.

Do not buy a coolant or CVT quantity based on whole-system capacity. A drain leaves fluid behind, and the applicable fill, bleed or level-setting procedure determines the service amount. The hosted brake-fluid rows give no capacity; no reservoir or flush quantity is claimed here.
